Commission
I accept commission work because it gives me the opportunity to research and work on one project for a protracted period of time. It also provides unique situations that force me to expand my vocabulary of creative solutions. I have been very fortunate to work with clients that have given me free reign to design without constraints. I prefer to work in the private sector rather than through agencies on the city, county or state level. In many cases the process of dealing with these agencies can be frustrating. Time lines are more manageable when you are working with a private client. Many of my recent work has come through word of mouth, from satisfied clients. The down side to working on large commissions is that it takes me away from my studio work. I must say however that much of what I do in the studio finds its way into my commissions.
